Faults and repair of F16D4 engine
F16D4 engine is a development of F16D3 and is actually a copy of A16XER motor from Opel, absolutely all parameters are the same. The motor is equipped with a system of phase change on two shafts, on the one hand the power has increased, but on the other hand there are problems with the solenoid valves of the phasoregulator and you will notice them when the motor starts to work as a diesel. In this case they are cleaned or changed. On F16D4 removed EGR valve, increased life of the belt and rollers, replacement is now once every 150 thousand kilometers. Removed hydrocompensators, instead of them clearances regulate tared cups (once in 100 thousand km). Oil leaks through the valve cover did not go anywhere, in general, the motor is an enlarged copy of F14D4, with all its advantages and disadvantages.
There is a slightly modified version F16D4 with an output of 124 hp with a system of changing the geometry of the intake manifold and a compression ratio of 11.
To summarize, if you choose Cruze, then 1.6 will be a bit small, look at F18D4 or A14NET, if the new Aveo, then the engine F16D4 is the most optimal for it.
Cruze/Aveo F16D4 engine tuning
Chip tuning engine F16D4
F16D4 turboThe market can meet a lot of tuning studio, which one chip will launch the car into space, it is certainly an exaggeration, but some gain is quite possible, to pile put exhaust spider 4-2-1, thereby removing the catalytic converter, receiver, firmware under this case and will be quite another song, about 125-130 hp we will get without special tricks.
Turbine on F16D4
Above was described the most optimal complex to finalize the motor, quickly, easily and reliably. If you have nowhere to spend money and want to create something unusual, you need to build a turbo.
Here is a short list of necessary:
- TD-04 turbine + custom turbo manifold
- intercooler autobahn88 (or similar)
- bypass from Audi TT RS
- zero intake + cold intake
- designed intake manifold
- oil trap D1- spec
- NGK IFR7X7G iridium-platinum plugs
- fuel pump FPP 340 l/h
- fuel rail on the second row of injectors
- second row of injectors Bosch 235 cc
- Custom Fuel Module
- anodized “Hardline” fuel pipes
- reinforced hoses in nylon braid
- FOR fittings
- BlackRock fuel regulator
- Radium pressure gauge
- engine oil LIQUI MOLY 5w-30 dexos1+ oil stabilizer Lucas oil
- autoscanner AUTOOL X50 plus
- INNOVATE 3877 LC-2 broadband lambda probe
- EGT sensor DEPO
- boost sensor DEPO
- ECU subcomputer – Ecu master DET 3+
- AEM V 2 water-methanol delivery system
- custom exhaust on 63 mm pipe
- custom expansion tank
- right engine hydraulic support
- cold thermostat for 92 degrees in aluminum housing
The components are given as an example, you can use others. All this will allow you to get in the neighborhood of 200 hp at 0.7 baz surplus on 100 gasoline.
To install the turbine you need a bypass, not a block-off, as we have a MAF, with a block-off will not work properly.
It is necessary to use 2 rows of injectors, our intake manifold has holes for the second row (and for this we need a separate control unit for these injectors – ECU MASTER DET3+). Our native fuel pump handled 2 rows of injectors and very well! The standard Aveo pump has good performance and it is enough for such tasks.
We also need AEM water-methanol injection: we put a 500 cc injector, use 50/50 alcohol/water.
The mixture at peak at 0.7-0.8 bar should be 10-10.5/1. At 11.5, the EGT rises sharply. A 61mm minimum straight-through exhaust, a good thick intercooler and a cold intake are also required.
Must install a cold thermostat and use Lucas oil stabilizers and oil only with dexos1 approval for turbo engines.
Also, will pop up an error on the automatic transmission at a boost greater than 0.5 bar (Check and abs, error -84, power limitation)
It should be removed in the main firmware and change the torque limitation on the gears, as the maximum torque in the program – 190 NM, we need to remove it and shift it to a larger number (it is better to trust a good specialist). Then the box will not fall into emergency mode.
