Fiat Jeep GSE-T3 1.0 Turbo MultiAir

The GSE-T3 1.0-liter turbo engine has been developed and produced by the Stellantis Group since 2018. This engine is part of the Global Small Engine (GSE) family and is aimed at compact cars and crossovers. It is installed in popular models such as the Fiat Tipo, Fiat 500X as well as the Jeep Renegade. There is also a more powerful version for the Brazilian market with the index T200, which produces up to 120 hp.

The GSE-T3 engine is compact and lightweight, weighing only 93 kg. Thanks to its aluminum cylinder block and Borgwarner B01G turbocharging system, the engine shows good performance with economical fuel consumption. However, this engine has some known issues to look out for when operating.

This engine is fitted to several popular Stellantis models, including:

Main problems and disadvantages

Despite its many advantages, the GSE-T3 engine has a number of known problems:

  • MultiAir system: the complex valve control system can fail with economy of maintenance. If it breaks, it is rarely repaired and often requires a complete cylinder head replacement.
  • Resource of the timing chain: owners on profile forums often note the relatively short life of the timing chain.
  • Capricious exhaust system: a complex system can cause problems in operation, especially in the conditions of untimely maintenance.
