Ford Duratorq DLD-416 1.6-liter engines were produced from 2003 to 2010 and were installed in the second-generation Ford Focus and Ford C-Max compact van. These engines, known under the codes GPDA, GPDC, G8DA and G8DB, were essentially a variant of the French diesel DV6ATED4, which was developed in conjunction with PSA Peugeot Citroën. Thanks to the modern Common Rail injection system and compact design, these engines were characterized by good economy, but had a number of technical shortcomings.

Ford Duratorq 1.6 TDCi engines have had a number of typical problems that are important to keep in mind during operation:

  1. Camshaft and timing chain wear. The first batch of engines suffered from camshaft cam wear and timing chain stretching, requiring frequent service and replacement of these components.
  2. Coking of the engine. These diesels have a tendency to stick quickly, especially with infrequent oil changes. Regular maintenance and the use of quality engine oil can help reduce the risk of breakdowns.
  3. Turbine problems. Clogging of the oil feed tube, especially the filter, has led to frequent turbine failures. Owners have noted that regular oil and filter changes can extend the life of the turbocharger.
  4. Gasket burnout under the injectors. Gaskets under the injectors often burn out, leading to loss of compression and the need to replace the injectors or repair the cylinder head.
