The Duratec 2.0 engine was produced at the Valencia Engine plant from 2001 to 2010. This inline four-cylinder unit with an aluminum cylinder block and injection system has four valves per cylinder. The piston stroke is 83.1 mm and the cylinder diameter is 87.5 mm. The compression ratio of the engine is 10.8.
The engine displacement is 1999 cubic centimeters. Engine output ranges from 141 to 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and torque reaches 185 Nm at 4,500 rpm.
Fuel with an octane rating of 95 is recommended for the engine, and it meets Euro 4 environmental standards. Fuel consumption is 9.8 liters per 100 km in the city, 5.4 liters per 100 km on the highway and 7.1 liters per 100 km in mixed mode. Oil consumption does not exceed 500 grams per 1000 km.
The dry weight of the Duratec 2.0 engine is approximately 93 kg. Geometric dimensions of the Focus 2.0 engine are not specified.
Recommended oil types for the engine are 5W-20 and 5W-30. According to the factory, the motor has a resource of about 350 thousand kilometers, but in practice its resource can reach up to 500 thousand kilometers.
Faults and repair of the engine Mondeo-Mazda 3/6 Duratec 2.0 MZR LF
Ford Duratec HE engine with a volume of 2.0 liters and an output of 145 horsepower is essentially a larger version of the 1.8-liter unit, but with larger diameter cylinders (87.5 mm instead of 83 mm). This motor was developed by Japanese company Mazda as part of their collaboration with Ford. Compared to the 1.8-liter version, the two-liter Duratec HE looks more attractive: it is also economical, more smoothly responds to loads, more powerful and runs quieter, without the problem with floating revs, typical for the 1.8-liter version. Factory data indicates an engine life of about 350 thousand kilometers, although in practice the real engine life is usually around this value, with some cases of achieving 400-450 thousand kilometers without major repairs.
As in the case of other motors, the Duratec HE 2.0 uses a chain drive timing, which significantly increases its reliability (chain life is about 200-250 thousand kilometers). All versions of this engine have a problem of short life of the camshaft oil seals. Often there is a breakdown of the thermostat before reaching a mileage of 100 thousand kilometers, which can lead to overheating or insufficient heating of the engine. It is also necessary to monitor the condition of the plug wells: if oil is detected, it is required to tighten the valve cover or replace the gasket. If after reaching 3000 rpm the car loses power and the Check Engine indicator lights up, it may indicate the need to replace the intake manifold flap control valve. In addition, every 150-160 thousand kilometers it is recommended to adjust the valve clearances, because the Duratec HE 2.0 has no hydrocompensators. Despite these minor flaws, the 2-liter Duratec HE is a very good, reliable motor and is considered one of the best in the Ford Duratec lineup. In 2010, this motor was replaced by a restyled version of the Duratec HE GDI Ti-VCT with variable valve timing and 150 horsepower.

Chip tuning
Tuning offices offer firmware with an increase in power up to 160-165 hp. As it is known, in practice only one firmware of the atmospheric engine will not give much, it is not necessary to build illusions, that to feel additional power it is necessary to change a receiver on sports (Cosworth for example), it is necessary a cold air intake, a throttle 60 mm, strengthened crank bolts, sports camshafts (for example Cat Cams 277/269), exhaust 4-2-1 without a catalyst, and better full straight-through, to roll online and it will be possible to squeeze out about 200-210 forces.
Compressor
To increase the power of the engine Duratec HE\MZR put mechanical supercharger PK-23-e (or more reliable and expensive compressor), intercooler, injectors from Mondeo 2.3, mass air flow sensor from Focus ST, install a thick cylinder head gasket, invite an experienced tuner and put it all together. With competent tuning, the motor will produce more than 200 horsepower, which is the optimal approach to tuning such a unit. You should not engage in extreme tuning, installing even more powerful compressors with a pressure of 1 bar and trying to surpass the 5-cylinder Duratec 2.5. This is not only financially unprofitable, but also very unreliable. After all, you don’t want to spend more time on the elevator than driving, right?
