Troubleshooting and repairing the GA15DE engine
Nissan GA15Before the QG15DE, Nissan produced a predecessor to the GA15. This engine was released in 1987 to replace the older E15 engines. Like all engines of the late 1980s, the GA15 is as simple as possible: cast iron block, aluminum cylinder head with a single camshaft and 12 valves (8 intake, 4 exhaust). There were carbureted versions GA15S and GA15E with multi-point injection. From 1990, the carbureted version received a 16-valve cylinder head with two camshafts and 10 more hp. This version was called GA15DS. In 1994, the last and most advanced version of the 1.5-liter engine appeared – GA15DE, equipped with a 16-valve cylinder head with two camshafts and multipoint injection.
This engine was equipped with two timing chains. The chain was replaced on average after 200-250 thousand kilometers.
There are no hydrocompensators on the GA15DE, so every 40-50 thousand kilometers you have to adjust the valves (or as necessary). Valve clearance (on cold): inlet 0,25-0,33 mm, exhaust 0,32-0,4 mm.
Along with this engine, the GA series included the following models: GA13, GA14 and GA16.
Production of the GA15DE was discontinued in 2000, when it gave way to the improved QG15DE.
Nissan GA15DE engine problems and shortcomings
The problems with this powertrain replicate those of the GA16DE.
Nissan GA15DE engine tuning
Atmosphere
As with the GA16DE, you can give one and a half. Get a cold intake, SR20 throttle, 51mm exhaust, 4-2-1 manifold, JWT crankshaft. Tune it up and get an extra 15-20 hp. Building a GA15DET turbo is absolutely useless, cheaper to buy a Lada Priora and put a TD04L on it, it will be easier and faster.
Engine Rating: 4.
