Nissan Primera QR20DE engine troubleshooting and repair
Nissan QR20DE engine is a rather mediocre 2-liter motor with an aluminum cylinder block and low life. Resource QR20DE, in normal operation, is about 200 thousand kilometers, if you change the oil more often than it should, drive extremely carefully and pray to the motor 2-3 times a day, there is a chance that will pass more than 250 thousand, at any rate, these facts are fixed.
QR20DE replaced the well-known SR20DE, individual ignition coils were added, electronic throttle, the cylinder-head was improved, the system of changing the timing on the intake shaft was added, balancer shafts appeared, for smooth operation and other less significant and noticeable changes.
There are no hydrocompensators on QR20DE, once in 100 thousand kilometers you need to go to adjust the valves, or wait until there are knocks in the engine and only then go, as all others do.
Problems and faults QR20DE
- Stretching of the timing chain. This problem is inherent in the first series of the motor, begins to float XX, the car twitches, etc., it means that the chain has come, replacement of the chain solves the problem completely. Later, this defect was eliminated.
- leaks from under the valve cover gasket, you change the cover with the gasket and the problem is gone.
- Oil burn, high oil consumption (more than 0.5 liters/1000km) is a sign of dead piston rings.
- Bouncing, you will be saved by flushing the injectors and cleaning the throttle.
- Motor vibrations. The matter is in the firmware, re-flashing and there are no problems. Yes and look at the plugs, perhaps they require replacement.
In addition to the above, the motor is problematic to start in the frost more than -20 C, short-lived catalytic converter (this applies mainly to cars before 2004, the problem lies in the suboptimal factory firmware and as a consequence of overflow fuel, which burned up in the catalytic converter, with the most unpleasant consequences for the cat and the motor), thermostats also do not suffer from reliability and their failure is fraught with overheating of the aluminum block of cylinders.
Summing up, of course, the QR20DE engine has become more modern and technological, but the old SR20DE still enjoys great respect among the people, thanks to its reliability and simplicity, and in the conditions of CIS countries, these qualities are valued much higher. In the QR series there is a 2.5-liter motor >QR25DE, the same as the 2-liter, but with a stroke of 100mm. Later, the QR20DE was replaced by another two-liter MR20DE engine.
QR20DE / QR25DE engine number
The engine number is located on the pad on the right side, on the cylinder block.
Engine tuning X Trail / Primera QR20DE
Chip tuning. Atmospheric tuning
In the CIS countries, the motor is a little stifled, so re-flashing and knocking out the catalytic converter will give an extra ~10 hp, with porting the header can bring the output to 160 hp. In general, a lot of movement and little result.
Turbine/Compressor on QR20DE / QR20DET
The most expensive and pointless way to spend your money is to install a turbo or compressor. Sold turbo kits based on Garrett T3 and other turbines (the price is high) with intercooler, you buy forged Cinder Block with zekovki under low compression ratio (~8), productive injectors ~440cc, productive gasoline pump, straight-through exhaust, porting the cylinder head will give us an improvement in filling the cylinders, spend online tuning. At the output we get a powerful motor ~250 hp (depending on the turbo) with low life, taking into account the price of all these things, you can understand why no one turbocharged QR20DE.
With compressor the situation is the same, only instead of turbo kit you buy compressor kit, all other modifications will not go anywhere. Naturally, you can buy a St. Petersburg compressor RK-23-1 to 0.5 bar and put on a standard motor, without any changes and it will withstand, but the gain will not be so significant, and the motor resource will be reduced.
To summarize in brief, tuning QR20DE occupation completely pointless, financially costly and not bringing anything sensible at the output.
