Troubleshooting and repair of Opel Z12XEP engines
In early 2004, a new 1.2-liter Z12XEP engine appeared on the Opel Agila, which replaced the Z12XE. This engine was created on the basis of Z14XEP, in the cylinder block of which was placed a crankshaft with a stroke of 72.6 mm, long connecting rods and other pistons with a height of 24 mm (were 23 mm). This made it possible to assemble a motor with a working volume of 1.2 liters.
This block was covered with a twin-shaft 16-valve head from Z14XEP. The intake valves here are 28mm in diameter, the exhaust valves are 25mm, and the valve stem diameter is 5mm. The valves do not need adjustment – the Z12XEP has hydrocompensators. The camshafts are similar to the Z14XEP.
The camshafts are rotated by a single-row timing chain, chain life is 100-150 thousand kilometers, sometimes more, sometimes less.
In addition to camshafts, the Z12XEP uses the same intake and exhaust systems as the Z14XEP.
There is also an electronic gas pedal and Bosch ME7.6.1/Bosch ME7.6.2 control unit.
In addition to its 1.4-liter counterpart, this engine is related to the even lower-volume Z10XEP model.
Production of the Opel Z12XEP engine was discontinued in October 2009, after which it was replaced by the A12XER.
Tuning of Z12XEP engines
You can increase the power of your motor in a similar way to the Z14XEP: you need to put a cold intake, plug the EGR, replace the manifold with a 4-1 and tune the ECU. This will give a small increase (up to 10 hp) and dynamics. Anything else is wasted money.
