Opel Z13DTH engine (1.3 CDTi)

The Opel Z13DTH diesel engine, also known as the L4I, was produced from 2005 to 2010 at a factory in Poland and used in two popular Opel models, the Astra and Corsa. By design, this engine is a modification of the Fiat 199A3000, which adds to its Italian technology and economy.

  • Opel Corsa D (S07) – 2006-2010

Benefits of Z13DTH

The engine has several significant advantages. It is low fuel consumption – on average about 5.1 liters per 100 km. Thanks to the Common Rail system and variable geometry turbine, the engine performs well in dynamics and is quite smooth even at high revs. It can also be effectively chip-tuned, increasing power to 114 hp and torque to 276 Nm.

Possible faults and disadvantages

The Z13DTH engine is known for some problems:

  1. Wear of the timing chain – a drop in oil level and wear of the hydraulic tensioner can cause the chain to stretch or even break at relatively low mileage.
  2. EGR valve – can become dirty and stick, leading to fuel mixture errors and engine starting problems.
  3. Thermostat – antifreeze leaks are common, which can cause the engine to overheat.
  4. Soot filter – if it burns through, diesel fuel may get into the oil, which requires more frequent oil changes.

How good is the Opel Z13DTH engine

The Opel Z13DTH is a reliable engine for everyday use when used properly and serviced in a timely manner.
