Renault D7F

The Renault D7F engine is a compact and reliable unit that was produced from 1996 to 2012 and fitted to compact Renault models such as the Twingo, Clio and Kangoo. The engine was also offered in a de-fortified version, and for the Brazilian market there was a 1.0-liter modification under the index D7D.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of D7F engine

Noisy operation

This is a fairly reliable motor and on the forum most often complain about its noisy operation. Especially it bothers when driving at high speeds and in fact nothing can be done. Sometimes a little to reduce the noise of the unit helps to adjust the thermal gap of the valves, and for this you need to remove the intake manifold, valve cover and replace their gaskets.

Breakage of the timing belt

Another known weak point of this motor is the low resource of the timing belt. According to European regulations, its replacement is provided only once in 120 000 km of mileage, but it often breaks earlier and often with valve bending. Change it every 60,000 km.

Ignition coil

From the factory, an ignition coil is put here, combined with high-voltage wires, which often punctures or they simply break, and it costs quite a bit. The problem became irrelevant as soon as the coil with separate wires appeared.

Lubricant leaks

On the profile forum there are quite a few complaints about oil leaks from under the valve cover. The cause is often the overtightening of its bolts, so it is better to lubricate them with sealant.

Other malfunctions

After 250,000 km, there is often oil spoilage due to the wear of rings or valve bushings and the main problem is that it is very difficult to find repair parts for overhaul. And also very modest resource here is characterized by a gasoline pump and attachments.

The manufacturer stated the engine life at 200,000 km, but it often lasts up to 300,000 km.
