Gasoline 1.1-liter engine F10D is the result of the work of engineers of the company Suzuki-Maruti from India. The power unit became the basis of a compact hatchback Suzuki Alto for the local market, supplied to European countries during 2004-2008.
Distinctive features of the unit are maximum simplicity and high level of reliability. The engine appeared as a result of modernization of the F10A unit with installation of a new block head, transition to the scheme with 16 valves and distributed fuel injection. The block itself is made of cast iron, having excellent resistance to external influences and low production costs.
The F10D engine gave its place to more modern motors in 2010, after its design did not allow to ensure compliance with environmental safety requirements of “Euro-4” standard.

Problems
- For the sake of economy, only two coils are installed on the engine, with a pair of spark plugs for each coil. But only with significant wear of plugs, the risks of premature “death” of coils increase. In this case, skipping occurs in two cylinders at once, expressing itself in a huge shaking of the motor at work and a sharp decrease in power.
- Even problems with one candle can make the motor jerk when gaining speed. Skipping can occur even at idle if the air conditioning is turned on full blast.
- Jerking, temporary loss of power and increased fuel consumption responds to the car engine and in the case of clogging fuel injectors. The problem is eliminated by cleaning them from contamination or replacing them with a new set.
- The engine throttle functions together with the idle speed regulator, so in many cases its operation can be simply adjusted. For this purpose, a separate screw is provided in the design of the regulator. If the revs are unstable, and the thrust at low revs is insufficient, it is likely that a more serious repair will be required.
- Hydrocompensators are not provided by the design of the power unit, so it is periodically required to check and adjust the thermal clearances. The procedure itself is extremely simplified, and is performed by means of screws.
- Checking is recommended by the manufacturer after every 90 thousand kilometers of mileage. From the tools for work only a screwdriver with a wrench and a special dipstick. The size of the gaps for the engine is allowed within the range of 0.14-0.19mm, both inlet and exhaust valves.
