Volkswagen-Audi EA211 1.2 TSI / TFSI engine reliability, problems and repairs
Changes in the series of TSI motors affected the small, 1.2-liter representative of the EA111 series, the new 1.2 TSI EA211 engine received a different cylinder head, now 16-valve, moreover, turned by 180 °. There is also a new exhaust manifold, which is made at the same time with the cylinder head, and which is located at the rear. In addition, the motor is mounted at a 12° angle to the rear. As on the previous version, there are hydrocompensators, direct fuel injection system is used, and a phase shifter on the intake camshaft has been added.
The timing chain has been replaced by a belt, which should be checked every 60 thousand kilometers and replaced if necessary. Modifications with 86 and 105 hp are equipped with the same turbocharger (smaller than the 1.4 TSI EA211), with an intercooler built into the intake manifold. The difference in power between the models is due to the different firmware of the Bosch Motronic MED 17.5.21 ECU.
Among other things, the EA211 series engines are equipped with a new dual-circuit cooling system, designed to solve the problem of long engine warm-up time.
VW 1.2 TSI / TFSI engine modifications
- CJZA (2012 – 2015) – 105 hp version, 0.9 bar boost pressure
- CJZB (2012 – present) – 86 hp version, 0.7 bar boost pressure
- CJZC (2014 – current) – 90 hp version, for Fabia 3 and Rapid.
- CJZD (2014 – current) – 110 hp version, for Fabia 3 and Rapid.
- CYVA (2012 – current) – analog of CJZB for Euro 6.
- CYVB (2014 – present) – analog of CJZD under Euro-6.
- CYVC (2015 – present) – 84 hp version.
VW 1.2 TSI problems
This motor is characterized by high oil consumption. Due to poor quality gasoline, you may have early rings and gradually begin to show oil burn.
In addition, you need to check regularly (every 50-60 thousand kilometers) and if necessary, then clean the valves from carbon deposits. Otherwise, the motor is tolerable, but you need to maintain it regularly and properly, pour good oil and change it 2 times more often than recommended. You should not fill up anywhere – the motor likes quality gasoline.
Tuning the engine Volkswagen-Audi 1.2 TSI / TFSI
Chip tuning
No matter what motor you have, the firmware Stage 1 will allow you to get about 135 hp on 98 gasoline and torque in the region of 240-250 Nm. On 95 gasoline will be a few horses less.
This is enough for a small 1.2-liter motor. There is no need to go deeper and change the turbine – the volume is too small. On Stage 1, with the DSG, your 1.2 TSI will go pretty quick as it is.
